Dominga, our Basset Hound, had cataract surgery — and everything went well!

I wanted to share something we experienced this week with Dominga, my 4-year-old gift (Basset Hound, of course). A while ago we noticed one of his eyes looking whiter in the backlight, and after a visit to the general vet, we were referred to an ophthalmologist.

After doing tests (including an electroretinography to see that the retina was working), they confirmed that she had cataracts and that surgery was necessary. The most complicated thing: he had a malformation called lenticonus, which made the surgery much more delicate.

A month ago he had surgery: cataract extraction + anterior vitrectomy. The vet told us that it was difficult, but that everything went perfectly.

Now we are in the recovery stage: 4 types of drops every 8 hours (spaced 3 minutes apart), more oral antibiotics and a lot of love. 🐾

We also took out vet insurance right before all this (through sheer luck), and managed to get the annual cap reimbursed, so that was a huge relief too.

If anyone has a basset with cataracts, or is going through something similar, happy to share more details if it helps. I just wanted to share that it is possible and that, although it was stressful, seeing her wagging her tail today as always is priceless 💙

Help!! Anyone know what this is?

Does anyone know what this could be? My basset hound mix who is 9 woke up like this Monday morning. From what I gather his third eyelid is covering his eye. He is otherwise acting normal, eating and drinking and going for walks. It is definitely painful as he yelped when I tried to get a better look at it. I will be going to the vet Friday.
