How can something so cute possibly be so naughty? Hankie getting some rest after a full day of mischief.
By the way, is it just the basset way to get into absolutely EVERYTHING? We have had him for over a year and he still manages to surprise me with how nosey he is and how he gets his way. I swear he’s the smartest yet most troublesome dog we have ever had haha. Love him to pieces though 💖

It’s been a while since I posted about Brucey, and I wish this was a cute, cheerful update. But honestly? I’m just wiped.
He’s almost one. He was neutered two weeks ago and recovered physically without a hitch—but ever since, it’s been chaos. He sleeps hard all day, then from 6pm to 3am, it’s constant barking, chewing, pacing, whining. Just restless and out of sorts.
We’ve tried everything: structured routines, late-night exercise, calming treats, trazodone (vet-approved), soothing him, ignoring him. Nothing sticks. And I know part of it is probably the hormonal shift post-neuter—plus he hasn’t been to daycare at all in the past two weeks. He normally goes twice a week and gets that energy out. He goes back Thursday, and I’m counting the hours. It’s also been over 100° here in VT, so big outside play is out.
I love this dog. But right now, I feel like I’m failing him—and I am absolutely running on fumes.
If anyone else hit a wall around the 1-year mark or noticed behavioral shifts after neutering, I’d love to hear how it played out. Or just some solidarity. That’d help too.

This little guy is Avro (we have named all our dogs after warplanes) whonis now a hair over 6 months old. I wasn’t expecting him, we had just lost our Bloodhound a couple of weeks before from epilepsy which broke my heart. Long story short the wife one night did a turn and burn for a 4 hour round trip and I had a surprise when I got home after a 14 hour night shift of plowing snow with him.
I have never owned a dog this chill…at times I wonder if he only has 2 brain cells fighting for 3rd place lol. Hates car rides but loves camping and lives being the centre of attention and when he can be a little Basshole getting into mischievous fun.
This weekend he will have a new brother to play with…yeah gonna have the tall version again another Bloodhound…. 2 scent dogs in the puppy stage is gonna be fun.
