Help!! Anyone know what this is?

Does anyone know what this could be? My basset hound mix who is 9 woke up like this Monday morning. From what I gather his third eyelid is covering his eye. He is otherwise acting normal, eating and drinking and going for walks. It is definitely painful as he yelped when I tried to get a better look at it. I will be going to the vet Friday.
