Hello everyone!

I got my first basset hound puppy 2 weeks ago, and he is so adorable (and a total land shark). My partner and I noticed that he bites his ears, and when I googled it, it was basically put that he does it out of boredom or as a playful behavior.

I noticed that he actually has red, dry spots that seemed to be scabbing over from where he started chewing on them. I just bought ear cleaner for the inside of his ears to clean wax, and have been using a wet rag to clean the bottoms of them after he drags them through his water, outside, and anything else he is near.

These red, dry spots are in the middle of his long ears, not caused by the wax or the fact that he’s been dragging them. Unless that is exactly what is causing it, and I’m wrong. I’m wondering if this can be fixed with something or if it is showing a deeper health problem.

Any advice is appreciated!

A little over a month since I got my big guy

Our 19-ish month old boy, Hooper, has peed on our 12-year-old son’s bed 3x in the past week or so; nowhere else in the house. Any ideas what might be behind this? (Picture for tax.)

We recently adopted our first basset hound, Otis. I understand the breed is notorious for being sloppy water drinkers, but Otis seems to take it to another level, so I’m hoping others have some ideas to help.

When Otis drinks, he likes to put his entire muzzle in the bowl, having a grand ole time slurping and blowing bubbles, so about half of the water ends up all over the floor and what remains in the bowl gets filthy almost immediately.

I’ve tried a no spill bowl with the floating disc, but he just pushes the disc down with his nose. Have also tried a no spill bowl with the lid and small opening but he can still get his nose in deep enough to slosh the water all over. Placing a mat under the bowl is also a no-go, as he likes to drag it through the house until the bowl flips over. I’m out of ideas at this point.

Sweetest little chunk ever (besides when he’s playing with our boxer and bites her hard; that’s a work in progress at the moment), but I’ve never had a pup that was so determined to nose dive into the water every chance they got!

Goose is my apprentice landscaper. He’s great at digging holes for me to plant into. 6 months old and working 40 hour weeks haha trooper!
