I’m gonna start off by saying basset hound puppies are not for the weak….. and I’m starting to feel like the weak lol.
I have a 6 month old basset and we got him at 8 weeks (I understand this is early) back in June. It feels like every day I regret my decision. I look on here constantly and reread peoples posts of how they feel/felt the same way and read all of the comments for support saying that it does get better and it was the best decision after their pups settles down. But my question is what have you done to get some relief of these feelings?
He has two canines left to lose (the new tooth and old tooth and side by side and the old one is not coming out) is this normal? I know he has to be in pain which could be the reason why the biting has increased (it got better for a while and now he is back to his 8 week self)
I have tried all of the tricks. Giving him ice cubes, frozen lick mats, freezing chew toys, firmly telling him no and trying to remove myself, putting a toy in his mouth when biting (he doesn’t even bite down on his toys at this point it just falls right out of his mouth and he just jumps on us and continues to bite), taking multiple walks (he gets home and lays down for 20 minutes then back to biting),and putting him in his crate to calm down (i know some of you disagree with this but honestly i have no other choice to completely separate him from us. We live in an older house with extra wide door ways and his gates won’t fit completely and if we do two, he pushes right through them).
His new thing is constantly jumping up and biting our arms/clothes and we take a step forward to knock him down and he gets mad and then bites our inner thighs. Also he has started biting and humping me and not my husband.
Lol i know that’s a lot to read but even if one person reply with support/suggests that’s alright with me!
