Thoughts on getting 2 bassets at once

My sister and I are getting an 8 week old pup next month and have been thinking about possibly getting a second dog from the same litter due to my sister and I working similar hours and there will be times where our dog would be alone for some time. We saw that bassets hounds do better when they have a companion but we’re just worried that owning 2 dogs would be too overwhelming and I just want to hear everyone’s thoughts and stories of owning 2 or more hounds. Any advice is appreciated as well.
