Thinking about getting a basset

Hi everyone! I’m thinking about getting a basset hound since I find them ridiculous and adorable and they might just match my energy perfectly. Context: I’m not a first time owner. I know what it takes to own a dog and I currently have a Toy Poodle together with my girlfriend. The toy poodle is very sociable, happy and chill. I’ve owned 2 other dogs in my lifetime which died of natural old age. All in all I’m prepared to own another dog.

However, I have a few questions regarding this breed and I’d love to hear the answers right from the owners. Any response is highly appreciated, thank you! Q: 1) Are they noisy in general? (barking and howling) or is it more of a myth. 2) Are they healthy in general? (I mean in terms of sensitive stomach/liver, not the obvious shoulder and long body which can cause some pain) 3) Do they drool?

Thank you!

Winter time attire

My husband and I recently adopted a dog (mix breed of some sort) that has a similar body structure to a Bassett. We’re looking into booties and coats for the winter because we live in the Midwest. Where do you all get your coats/boots/sweaters for your Bassett? We wanna make sure it’ll fit his long torso.

Walking Question

We picked up our baby a little over a week ago. He’s 7 months. He’s been really great. We’ve been taking short 10-15 min walks twice a day. He is still getting used to his leash. Today and yesterday he refused to go for a walk. He doesn’t appear to be injured or anything. He will sniff around the driveway and try to go back to the house. He’s excited to get back in the house and pulls out his toys to play. This is my first basset is this a normal behavior or puppy/ new dog behavior? He is definitely stubborn 😅
