Basset meets baby

Hi, all! I have a basset who is four years old. A pretty good boy – we didn’t do the best job training him but he’s still pretty well-behaved for the breed. He’s stubborn and very occasionally gets a bit food-possessive, but if he’s really being bad, a squirt of water takes care of it (like one would a cat).

My wife is due to give birth to our first baby in a month or so. We are very excited and I would love any insight on getting Winston and the baby introduced and generally how to handle the first year or two with the dog. Our dog has a way of jumping on people with excitement – not either of us, but when he sees someone new or someone he hasn’t seen for some time, he will jump on them for a bit and go nuts until he calms down. I don’t want him climbing on the baby until it’s ready and I generally just want a good experience with our baby and our dog. We love him very much and he loves us, and we want him to be just as close with the baby as with us. Any tips?

I also have a few pictures of Winston in his favorite activities – generally doing as little as possible!

Having a bit of trouble with correcting a behavior from my bassie

Hi all, my Basset, Luna is almost 8 months old and around the time she started getting crate trained she has developed the habit of jumping. Really high. We’re talking she jumps like Lebron going for a three pointer, hind legs up in the air with her. We’ve been trying really hard to correct this, not giving her attention when she jumps, giving her treats when she doesn’t jump and calms down, everything. Idk what to do here because I’m really tired of her doing this naturally. Thanks for any advice!

Car Travel

I have another one! What do you find works best for puppy in the backseat? Brucey’s car seat from a month ago is already a little tighter than he would prefer. I’d like to find something that covers the gap between front and back seats (the legroom area) but that is still open between the two front seats, so I can reach back – he gets nervous sometimes.

We don’t have long travel plans, but I like to bring him to the park or the pet store, etc.
