Basset Hounds for You

Ok so my wife and I recently adopted a Basset/ poodle mix named moose. I posted a picture of him yesterday. We got him at 4 months and is now 8 months old. About a month ago he started limping on one of his front legs. We had X-rays done and they diagnosed him with both of these conditions. Basically part of his elbow didn’t fuse correctly when he was growing so now he has a piece of the joint that is not connected and the same leg also bows outward. We brought him to an orthopedic surgeon this past Monday. They want to do a surgery to fix both conditions as one affects the other. They want to do the osteotomy to help correct the bow and take pressure off elbow joint and put a screw in the piece that didn’t fuse correctly while he is still young in hopes to have it fuse. We are most likely going to have the surgery done bc we want what’s best for our little Moose and don’t want him to be in pain.

Has anyone with a Basset had any of these issues before, has anyone had any such surgeries and if so what was the outcome and how has it been since?

When did your bb (baby basset) first howl?

Brucey is 6mo and has just barely started boofing, and also yips for treats and snacks, sometimes grumbles at the UPS man… but we’ve only ever heard a hint of a howl when he was upset and in his crate.

Not that we need to rush it, in our condo 😆, but I’m just curious. 😌

How many times do you feed your basset? Also what type of food would be best? We use our dog Authority brand and before that it was Hills science diet . She’s been looking more chunky if I say and we’ve been walking her.

Hello, my husband and I got our first basset hound about 2 months ago. She’s absolutely adorable, 6 months old, and is so great with our other dog! The problem is no matter what we do she finds something to chew up. She has destroyed my makeup, shoes, blankets, plants, Apple Watch, my husbands debit cards, his ID, many of my books and so much more. Like if we leave the house it’s not and “if she chews something up” it’s a “what did she chew up”. We’ve tried everything, there isn’t even anything at her level to get into like this chick is jumping or something. How do I train her to stop this? Will she ever grow out of it? Sorry this post is all over the place I’m just genuinely lost. We are in our early 20’s and our previous puppy was so beyond easy to train… what can I do to help her so this can stop?
