My basset hound likes to eat weird things can I do anything about it?

My dog, Gregg eats really disgusting things such as him getting into the cat litter box when I’m gone and he will eat it, he has gotten the lid stuck on his head before if I try to use a cat box with a lid.

Please help me with what to do 😭😂
