Crating your basset

I feel terrible having to crate my basset anytime I have to leave, but I have to because if I don’t he destroys the house and pees. Does anyone else have this problem? I feel so bad because he cries and I feel like he doesn’t get enough play time outside of the kennel 😭

Presenting Dr. Bartolo

Just realized I haven’t shared my basshole with y’all!

This is Dr. Bartolo! For the operatic amongst you, he was named after the villain from The Barber of Seville.

At 7 months, he is one heavy nearly-50 lbs guy. Lovable and very social, he can and will chew through anything and is a strong candidate for the Olympic high jump! Sometimes makes me want to tear my hair out in frustration, but he is a great partner and can very reliably slightly chomp down on my hand to keep it near him.

Pictures taken at 7 months with a Nikon Z6III + 40mm f/2, thanks fast shutter speed!

Thinking of getting a Basset Hound – are they low-maintenance, chill companions?

I’m considering getting a dog, and Basset Hounds caught my eye. I’m looking for a pet that’s relatively low-maintenance, someone who’s chill, introverted, and happy just hanging out with me.

A few things I’d love to know: • Are Basset Hounds generally calm and not prone to barking or separation anxiety? • How’s their grooming? Easy or high-maintenance? • Could they be left with a housemaid or for short trips (like a week) without getting too stressed?

I honestly don’t want a dog that’s super needy or high-energy. I’d love a laid-back companion. Any advice, personal experiences, or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks! 🐾
