Help with new puppy!

Hello, I am new to having a basset hound. This is Dahlia. She is 7 months old and quite the handful! She does NOT like being separated from me. I am constantly at home and rarely leave, so moments like taking a bath or going to sleep leaves Dahlia to cry constantly at the door. Every night my husband and I go to bed and leave Dahlia out with her sister ( french bulldog named lucy) and my dad ( who had to move in with me ) in the living room.

Despite another dog and person in the living room she still cries at the door and will chew and rip up anything she can get from tv remote, to hair brushes etc. I have given her bones, chewie and new toys but nothing seems to entertain her over night. I do have a large crate and was using that at when we first got Dahlia but even as a tiny puppy she would cry very loudly.

I no longer put her in the crate at night but now I am considering it since Dahlia has decided to rip up carpet by my bedroom door upsetting my husband. Should I leave Dahlia in the large crate with her sister over night? Lucy loves sleeping in the crate at night and misses it.

Goodbye Roo

You’re stardust again, Roo. Come back to me in whatever form you like. I’ll know it’s you.

I had been away for a few weeks in Oregon to complete a contract assignment while my husband and Roo were in California.

While I was gone, he had fallen ill with gastritis and then a respiratory infection back-to-back. Then a suspicious looking lymph node with inconclusive findings. Got another biopsy and was waiting on the results. The vet suspected lymphoma. My husband took exceptional care of him and would drain our bank account to take care of him. I wasn’t worried because I knew Roo was in good hands.

I packed up and left Sunday (June 9th) and drove 12 straight hours to get to him. I didn’t realize the severity of his condition until I was finally reunited with him. I laid with him, sang to him, kissed him, and told him how much I loved him. I then told him it was ok if he had to go.

We were about to scoop him up and take him in to euthanize, but we didn’t get to. He took his last breath in my arms and I wailed like I’ve never wailed before. My whole world shattered in that moment.

I am feeling such tremendous guilt from being away and for not getting him to the vet in time. I’m just so afraid he suffered. I hope he knows how much I loved/love him.

How to I cope with this guilt?

Dog carrier option

Hi,

I’m looking for recommendations on a pet carrier I can use to transport my basset on public transit.

I’ve been looking at the backpack and chest carrier types but I can’t find any that have a weight capacity anywhere near my dude. 57 lbs.

Do any of you use something like this that you could recommend?

Ear cleaner

I have a 1 1/2 yr old female basset. She is my 2nd one I’ve owned but it’s been 2 years since I had my last buddy. I’ve been trying to remember what brand of ear cleaner I used, but for the life of me I can’t. Does anyone have any suggestions of brand to buy to keep her ears clean and keep out an ear infection?
