Aging Basset Advice

This is Cornelius Scott and he’s 9. These pics are for tax because I need advice.

My husband and I have been struggling a ton recently as he is increasingly obsessive. If he is not actively being petted, chewing a bone, on a walk or eating he is either begging for water or begging to go outside and repeat. If I don’t jump out of my seat immediately when he signals for outside he pees on the floor out of spite.

Our vet thinks it’s behavioral and related to anxiety. We take him for 30 min walks 1-2 times per day, do enrichment activities and make sure he is adequately cuddled. He is on a daily calming aid, and trazodone as needed.

This is our first time having an aging dog and we are struggling with how to make him less obsessive and more able to relax.

Irritated belly :( allergy help?

Hello! This is Hank, he’s about 1 1/2 years old. We live in Arizona, allergy season is definitely here as well as the heat. Hank started itching a lot about a couple weeks ago, especially under his armpits. I treated the current irritation with medicated wipes and started him on a daily 24-hour allergy medication (Costco brand AllerClear). The wipes seemed to soothe him, and cleared up his armpits and the allergy med seemed to help! But even with all that, he is now back to persistant itchiness and an irriated belly 🙁 any tips? I have Googled a lot of things that lead back to allergy shots, would like to only use that as an absolute last resort. He’s our first and only basset, always learning new things with how to help him live his best life!

reactivity

Has anyone had some issues with their basset being reactive towards strangers? my sweet girl is a year and 8 months old and has been struggling since she was a puppy with terrible anxiety and fearful reactiveness. we have gotten to the point of now needing prozac daily for her anxiety. she is VERY fearful of strangers and very reactive. she isn’t aggressive in any sense, but i feel that is she was put in a bad situation she could get snippy. we’ve tried at home training, i’ve done so much research to try and help her, and started on CBD but she is still incredibly reactive. i hate feeling like i’m failing her and need some help here. has anyone dealt with this in bassets? here is a cute pic of her 🤎

Puppy

We recently got our sweetest puppy, who’s a basset hound. We are struggling to get him to eat, it’s weird to say but he acts like a picky eater. The previous owner explained that she had him on goat milk, we bought some and he does drink that. However, he refuses to eat any kibble, any soft food, any treats. The one thing he eats is salami which I discovered accidentally. All other foods he seems uninterested in. What’s concerning is he’s got his ribs poking out now. He’s not lethargic or anything and loves to play, I’m just worried why my puppy can’t eat. What’s the solution?
