Hello,

I am looking to adopt (ideally a young dog if so) or purchase specifically an American Basset hound. I live in southern Idaho and would not mind driving up to 12 hours to pick up (not including on the way back) or a round trip flight if the breeder is near / willing to meet in a city.

I’ve been looking for a few weeks and have found very little information about breeders or rescues with Bassets near me at all and even if I have they all seem to be of the European lineage. I am specifically targeting an American Basset as I would like to use it out in the field for hunting purposes. But I am pretty bad at researching so who knows, I might be looking in the wrong places.

I am also not super knowledgeable on Basset Hounds and I am taking recommendation advice from the last post I made here so if I have said or say anything incorrect let me know.

Any info is very appreciated!!

Hey everyone! So we had our first family BBQ over the weekend, and let me tell you, Franklin Cuddlesworth was the star of the show! 🍔🌭 He was running around trying to steal every fallen morsel and charming everyone with those big floppy ears. 😂 It was hilarious to watch him bounce from one guest to another, giving his best puppy eyes. Does anyone else’s basset have a knack for being the life of the party? Also, how do you keep them from snatching food off the ground? Any tips? Looking forward to hearing your funny stories!
