There comes a time in every relationship when one must move on for one reason or another and when you can see that time coming its scary for us it was love at first site you where smart and funny and full of energy your first people left you and you came into our world not as a pup but still fairly young we have had lots of adventures and lots of emotions but this emotion is the hardest to face I see you slowing down the gray fur and tired eyes and it brakes my heart you are my best bud and I see you suffering and can’t help much I am being selfish because I wont let them take you before its time but where is your line where would you want me to give in and say ok that time is coming and I already feel alone

Hello. It’s been almost 3 months since I adopted my Basset Hound boy, and he is a great dog. He is 2 and a half. He fits into my household perfectly, but I haven’t figures out a way to play with him yet. Most of my adult life, I have owned cattle dogs. They liked to play in several different ways. Some liked to chase balls, while others liked to be chased with a toy in their mouth. Tug of war is another game they all liked to play. My Basset hasn’t seemed interested in playing the same ways as my past dogs. He will kind of play tug of war but stops pretty quickly. The only way he has shown interest in playing is attempting to rough house and wrestle with me, but I dont like to encourage that kind of behavior. When he first came to our house, he would play with my 12 year old border collie mix, but they haven’t been playing much lately either. He does get to go to the dog park and play with other dogs once or twice a week. I would like to fbd a way to play with him, though. Are Bassetts just not interested in playing with their people. Does anyone have any suggestions on ways to play with him?

Hi all. I’m at a loss of what to do. For almost a week now, my 6 month old basset puppy has been going through a fear period and has been absolutely terrified of loud noises. It’s gotten to the point where she won’t even go outside for me to take her out to potty, and at the smallest noise, tucks her tail and tries to run away from me.

I had to run some errands yesterday so I took her out to pee and put her in her kennel around 6, and when I got home around 9:30, we walked down to go potty and a neighbor was taking out the trash, making a loud noise at the dumpster. This sent her into a full panic, trying to run away from me and got so worked up she refused to pee the rest of the night, as every time I tried to take her outside to go to the potty, she just stood there or laid down in the grass and was constantly distracted by EVERY noise, even ones that weren’t that loud and far off. I purposely came inside to give her time to calm down and tried taking her out again, but this time once we got down there, she just wanted to lay down in the grass and not move, so I had to pick her up and carry her back inside my apartment. She went to bed, and didn’t pee until I had to be up for work this morning after 5am.

I have a small patch of fresh patch on my balcony, but of course, my balcony door made a noise she didn’t like, so she instantly ran away once in the apartment and would not leave the couch last night, so I had to pick her up to bring her to her kennel to go to bed.

I live in a college town where my street is very busy, and of course it’s move in weekend, so there’s lots of unpredictable noises everywhere. When I got home from work this morning, she was doing fine and then a car drove past and it made a noise, and again, this terrified her and she tried to run from me.

Just now, I tried to take her out to potty before I leave my apartment again, and she’s refused to leave and just wanted to run back into the apartment.

And even now, inside my apartment, she hears noises going on outside, and is sitting on the couch shaking.

I’ve tried to use treats, including high value ones such as cheese, and during these moments she doesn’t want any treats or food.

She hasn’t resorted to peeing or using the bathroom inside thankfully, but I still am at an utter loss on how to navigate this. I’ve had one puppy prior to my basset, and it was a lab 10 years ago. I genuinely do not remember him going through any fear period this severe and genuinely am at a loss of what to do, as I do not want any of this behavior to be permanent but I also am at a loss because she needs to go outside to pee, but outside is where the noises are.

What do I do???? I am at a complete and utter loss.
