Basset Hound Rules

The Rules:

The Basset Hound is not allowed in the house. Okay, the Basset Hound is allowed in the house, but only in certain rooms. The Basset Hound is allowed in all rooms, but has to stay off the furniture. The Basset Hound is only allowed on the old furniture. Fine, the Basset Hound is allowed on all the furniture, but is not allowed to sleep with the humans on the bed. All right, the Basset Hound is allowed on the bed, but only by invitation. The Basset Hound can sleep on the bed whenever he wants, but not under the covers. The Basset Hound can sleep under the covers every night. Humans must ask permission to sleep under the covers with the Basset Hound! In all cases of dispute…. the Basset Hound rules!

Best cone of shame for basset?

My poor 9.5 year old boy has glaucoma in one eye, and will be getting it removed next week. Last time he had surgery for neutering, they gave him a cone of shame… but he’s so short he couldn’t eat or drink without me taking the cone off which was frustrating for everybody with the water and food bowls being spilled if we forgot.

What kind of cone works best for a basset, so his short legs won’t reach his eye socket after his surgery?

Best harness for extreme pulling?

Hi Everyone! I brought my basset rescue pooch home this week, and we’re getting acquainted. Now that the drugs have worn off from her spay surgery, WOW, does she have energy. She is SO strong, I can barely keep the lead in my hands when we walk. She is ok about half the time, then BOOM, she bursts forth like a missile. I really need advice about what kind of harness or collar/leash combo to buy. I intend to enroll in some training ASAP, as well, but until then, I can’t even walk her for fear of her dragging me toward a crash landing. Please help?!

Has anyone else experienced this?

Hello vets,

Hello, I’m hoping to get some advice regarding my basset hound puppy. He is 8mo old currently. I noticed he would limp at times, kind of randomly. After about 2 weeks of noticing the limp I took him to the vet. The vet checked him over and recommended an X-Ray. As you can see from the pictures I’ve attached, his right leg definitely has something going on. The vet said it looked like it was almost dislocated from the angle. Has anyone else experienced this with their basset? He is not in pain and plays and eats normally. I’ve been trying to get him to take it easy while we are figuring out his leg.

My girls ❤️

Marigold (top) is a pure breed, American style basset hound. She’s 7 years old and loves snuggles, naps, and popcorn. Bean (bottom) is a mixed breed basset. We guess she’s mixed with some kind of bird dog (maybe a German short haired pointer). She’s 3, high energy, loving but anxious, and loves bird watching.
