Sad news for Luna

So I introduced Luna, the one eyed basset, to you all about a month ago. Im sorry to say since then we have had to have her other eye removed due to Glaucoma.

We were told it would happen eventually but didn’t bank on it being this quick (the first eye was only removed last year). After taking her to the vets when she seemed to be off her food they initially thought it was tummy upset, but after 4 days of being on meds for that she suddenly had a milky eye one morning and we knew what it meant.

The vet did offer to try medication again but as this didn’t work last time And we wanted Luna to stop suffering Plus the eye actually seemed worse than before we opted to have it removed. We had googled how to cope with a blind dog and wasn’t discouraged by it.

So challenges lie ahead for us all, lots of adapting but I’m happy to say that even in 5 days after the op Luna is doing really well, is becoming herself again and already coping with the situation.

Initially we felt sad for her but dogs are so resilient and this is so evident in the improvement we’re already seeing in this short time.

She hates the cone but during the first op when we took it off the first thing she did was scratch her eye and made it bleed so we’re being much more vigilant this time.

As gutting as it is, with precautions in place and us being extra mindful of situations, were extremely hopeful that Luna will continue to live a full and happy life.
