Basset Hounds for You

The title says it all!

And sorry for multiple posts in one day, but it’s been one of those days where this boy, does whatever he can to be resting, touching, snoozing on etc Daddy….

It’s the way he looks at me, maybe it’s unconditional love, maybe it’s hey Dad you are giving me treats enough… But either way I love Bassets!

So a lot of people were asking for an update on Marv and here it is: I went to visiting hours and saw him. He seems a little low compared to his usual playful self but other than that seems to be ok. They gave him propofol after his seizure last night and that does tend to make dogs more chill. I spoke with the neurologist today and she believes he has idiopathic epilepsy, which has no known cause or cure. Moving forward we treat the symptoms (seizure activity) with twice daily propofol and it sounds like he can have a happy and healthy life with that treatment. While in the hospital he has been given iv fluids and has a catheter in (that he tried to chew out, hence the cone of shame) My fiancé and I pick him up at 4:30 today and I’m literally counting down the minutes. It absolutely broke my heart to walk away from him after visiting hours were over. Thank you to everyone who has been keeping Marv in your thoughts and prayers!

Zucchini completed her training class.

Maze (the one with white socks) is about 6 and a half now and we recently learned she has hemangiosarcoma..she had he spleen removed and it was 8 pounds but I’m very optimistic because post surgery she’s been cleaning her bowl every meal and loves jumping around and wrestling with her new sister Juno since we got her back in Feb. just wanted to share a photo dump from the past few months post-op 🫶

(Pic is just of my boy) So Marv had his second seizure today. It was absolutely horrible and violent with yelling and head banging. Last time the vet said we didn’t need to bring him in for every seizure but this one was worse than the last one so we came in. They took him back and we sat in the waiting room for 2 hours before they came and got us. The dr basically told us “we don’t know why this is happening and we think he should be kept until he is 24hr seizure free.” They are also doing more blood tests and he’s seeing a neurologist tomorrow. I’m really glad we said yes to it cause they called me later and said he had a second seizure while in their care and they administered an anticonvulsant. And because of all mentioned above I know logically that he is safer in their care but I just keep thinking of when I said goodbye to him earlier this afternoon. He was in a kennel and looked so scared. I just want to drive over there and beg them to let me sit with him but obviously that can’t happen. Visiting hours are at 11am tomorrow and I will be there at 11:00.01 to give him loving. Until then I’m trying to calm myself down that he’s ok. Sorry if this is kind of disjointed I’m just typing out my thoughts as I think them.

Mr. Dr. Watson loves being outside. He also loves barking at everything that passes by the house until it’s out of site. My area has a lot of foot traffic so there’s a lot of booming, basset barking. I’m thinking of installing a heavy, black chain link fence privacy fabric. I’d like to give the neighbors some peace and quiet. Has anyone tried this or something similar?
