Size?

This is my sweet boy Huckleberry AKA Huck. When I got him from his previous owner I was told he was 5 months old meaning he would be 6 months now but from some reading I’ve don’t males are typically 30-40 pounds at this point while Huck is only 10 pounds. Is it possible he’s the runt or just small for the breed? Or was the previous owner wrong about his age?

Here is (was) my best bud for over 14 yrs

I adopted this beautiful guy from a towns animal pound in 2009, and I guess his age to be around 2-4. I had to put him down about 1-1/2 yrs ago due to kidney failure, and cancer. Next to my father and grandparents dying, it was the hardest thing ever.

I hadn’t been ready for another dog but I think it’s about time. So I have been searching rescues and animal shelters web sites trying to find one that I think I would like.

I did find one on petfinder from a city shelter one state away from me about 4 1/2 hr drive, but I was willing to drive to meet her in person. I called and left a message about 3 times with their police dispatcher to have the ACO call me back about her. I emailed the adoption application, and Facebook Messenger trying to find out if I was approved. One morning at 7:45 I called again and the dispatcher then told me the basset was no longer available. I immediately emailed saying that I would get on the road right then and be there that afternoon. The ACO FINALLY messaged me back on FB and said the dog was tagged for a rescue group from Minnesota and they had already picked her up.

Why didn’t the coward just tell me from the start what they had planned for this beautiful girl is beyond me. Instead she got my hopes up and once again my heart is broken.

If someone reads this, and is in charge of making decisions, or works for a rescue or shelter, please just tell people what your plans are from the start instead of stringing someone on.

Sorry for the rant!

Neutering and cherry eye questions

I have a 4m old male and the guy I got him from said it’s best to wait at least a year to neuter due to the dwarfism gene. My vet said 6m of age is fine.

My dilemma is that he also has cherry eye that I want to get taken care of and I want to limit the times under anesthesia, so I would also get him neutered at the same time if possible. My boyfriend wants the eye taken care of like yesterday and I’m trying to hold him off until the time I neuter. Also it’s only one eye and the vet says it’s likely the other eye will go soon too and it hasn’t yet.

Also the technique the vet recommends for cherry eye is the tack down one. My dogs dad (sire?) had cherry eye in both eyes and he had the glands completely removed. Vet said if the tacking doesn’t work then we can remove the glands. The breeder also says if the tacking down doesn’t work it could really harm his eye and I haven’t been able to find anything on that.

Anyone have any input on what I should do?
