Becoming Basset Hound Parents!!!!

My husband and I are adopting a 1.5 y/o Basset. Sadly, the original owner is elderly and ill, no longer able to care for her.

I am so excited to get her in 2 weeks I could literally explode. We have an 8 y/o Boston Terrier who is a tiny bit territorial, but is mostly calm and keeps to herself. Hit me with alllll pros and cons, tips and tricks, advice for Basset owners, and anything that might be helpful to her during this transition. TIA!!!

Blood and Basset Hounds – Advice

So my fiancé and I are planning on eventually getting a Bassethound and have been doing research periodically. Well- I’ve been lurking in this subreddit and he’s been doing research. Anyways, I’ve read a lot of the posts asking about advice for bassethounds and read something about having two bassets making the process easier. I currently have a bloodhound, Tortuga, who is sweet and amazing but I’m unsure if it would make the process easier or worse. I thought I would ask for general advice and if this would possibly work. To add, Tortuga is currently with my mother because I live somewhere that doesn’t allow dogs and she loves her so much, so there is a possibility that my mom will want to keep her (she’s her trail dog lol). All of this to say, would it be better to let my mom keep her (she only lives about 10 mins away so it’s not a forever departure) and get two bassethounds or maybe even another bloodhound and one bassethound? Or is the benefit in only having two bassethounds? I added pictures of her (Tortuga) for fun lol.

Weird eating pattern?

My Basset does this weird thing where dumps all the food out of her bowl, separates the food that she spilled, licks the bowl clean, then eats the food from the piles she made. She has been doing this since about 12 weeks of age. I have switched bowls, moved bowl locations no matter what she does this. Does anyone else’s basset do this or is my dog just strange? I’ve attached a video of what she does

Theo is 5.8 lbs and 3 1/2 weeks old now!

He’s gotten so big! He can fully see now and we are starting him on some puppy mash since Sweetie is starting to wean him off of milk. He’s starting to walk on his own as well, still very wobbly, but he’s learning quickly!!

Last two photos are my favorite, he was doin a biiiiiiiiiiiig puppy yawn then right after started licking my face as seen in the 5th photo lol
