I suspect a dog I want to adopt may have chondrodysplasia due to the short, wide-set structure of the legs. I’d like to make sure this structure isn’t causing any current or future issues. I am going to speak to the vet tech there and have them inspect his front legs. But I wanted to reach out to a community that understands basset hound mix’s better than me. Now I’ve seen bassets with crooked front feet and be completely fine. The humane society doesn’t have much information on this guy. So any observations from this community may help. Thank you.

Hi! I don’t have a basset but I have a basset shaped mutt and I’m looking for a winter coat for him. With his stubby body I find it hard to find clothes that fit his awkward body. His Halloween costume ended up being an XL, and his winter shoes are and XXL, but he stand only 1.5 fit off the ground. So that’s why I’m coming to you all, please share your favorite recs for my stubby guy!

Honey, now renamed Bunny, it’s about six months old, but tiny because she wasn’t fed properly until I got her. She has no toy drive, knows exactly when I do and don’t have treats in my pocket and will behave accordingly, and she is generally the most “dumb” (distracted) dog I’ve had. A lot of it is definitely because she’s a puppy, but even so she behaves differently than the Border Collies and German shepherds. I’ve grown up knowing.

How have y’all trained your Bassetts to have a good recall? Walking politely on leash? What about “spot” or “place”?

I’ve never had to use anything other than play or toys as a reward for my previous dogs, and to add on, she’s our first puppy. I’ve always preferred adults or seniors just because I don’t have to deal with as much yapping or chewing or house training.
