Amputation

Has anyone had a hind leg amputation for their basset hound? We have a beagle basset mix and he has a Hemangiosarcoma mass in his hind leg- after radiation and chemo the specialist vet has suggested amputation to hopefully buy him a couple more years (he is 8), although there is no guarantee with this type of cancer. They have said that dogs generally recover quickly from hind leg amputations as they put lots of their weight on their front legs. Wanted to see if anyone here has any experience with how long bodied / short legged dogs have adapted?

Does my Basset Hound look underweight?

Hello! I am a new basset hound owner. This is Ser Copperbottom. He’s 7 months old, 48 lbs. I feed him twice a day and he drinks a ton of water, lol. I took him for his recent appointment, and they had told me that he is at a healthy weight, but I can’t help but think he looks a little skinny. I’d love to hear someone’s opinion who knows basset hounds, has experience with them and could tell me if this is normal.

It is snow time!

It snowed all night but the two Bassets took in stride. The female found some bone and was then bullied away by the male. It has been a struggle to stop the bullying about food. The female is very docile which complicates it. They can always enter their warm pad anytime.
