Puppy Training for Cats

Hey everyone!

First time dog owner and recently acquired a female basset puppy. We got her when she was 3 months old, and she’s now about 6 months.

We already had 3 male cats in the house prior to getting her, two of which are senior cats.

Since the beginning we’ve struggled getting the animals to mix. There is a gate we use to keep separation. At first the puppy had limited access to the majority of the house as we were going through puppy training. As she’s getting older we’re expanding that access. But every time a cat enters the space she’s in she runs up to them and is all over them, not biting or jumping on them. Just up in their business, which they very much don’t like. Running away and then staying away, feel like they are coming around less and less.

Just looking for some general tips or insights on things that may have worked for some of you.

Thank you!

TLDR; 6 month old basset puppy struggling to not freak out when cat brothers enter the room, help

Will, he cared about his stuffies. This is from when we moved to our place near the coast (notice the dirty hind hind foot from the beach)waiting for his toys to get washed and dried. He never tore them up – God forbid. But his Basset sister was known as Shiva the Destroyer.
