Hi everyone. I’m posting because we’re in that awful limbo stage and I’m hoping to hear from people who’ve been through something similar.

This is Golly, a very young puppy (not even a year old yet). A few days ago, he started crying out in pain intermittently with no obvious trigger. He was eating, drinking, alert, but clearly uncomfortable. He especially reacted when his neck or head was moved, and he seemed reluctant to hold his head up at times.

We took him to the vet, and based on the exam and his symptoms, they’re concerned about a cervical spine issue. Wobbler syndrome was mentioned as a possibility, though nothing is confirmed yet. He’s now on strict rest and medication, and he has an MRI scheduled soon to get real answers.

I’m attaching a video of him walking. Some moments look almost normal, and other moments worry me more. I can’t tell if I’m overanalyzing or if the gait really looks off, especially in the rear and with how carefully he moves his head and neck.

A few questions I’d really appreciate input on:

• For those who’ve dealt with Wobbler or other cervical spine issues, does his walk look familiar to you? • Did symptoms come on suddenly or gradually for your dog? • What did the waiting period before imaging look like, and how did you manage rest with a young dog? • If it wasn’t Wobbler, what else did it turn out to be?

I know no one here can diagnose him, and we’re following our vet’s guidance closely. I’m just trying to learn, prepare myself, and hear real experiences from people who understand how scary this stage is.

Our girl passed a few months ago at 14 yo from cancer…. She didnt seem in pain but a vet told us only because they dont show it, that doesn’t mean they aren’t in pain… cant stop thinking about that tbh. Anywho… here is a little photo of her 💗

This is a very difficult time for Martha. She was spayed. My husband brought her home 3 years ago as a surprise for me. Don’t surprise me. Although I love her, she has been more than a handful. My husband wanted pups. I said, “no.” So, now she is 5 years old and just getting spayed. She is very needy and I can understand. I feel for her. But, I had no idea she had to have this on for 1 week. She needed this done due to a lump showing up.

Hello hello, Billy is settling in nicely, but my partner and I are trying to crate train him and it is *not* going especially well. We’ve been trying to acclimate him to the crate at night and when we leave the house without him, and it seems whenever we leave him alone, he goes #1 or #2 in the crate.

My partner slept near the crate for the first night, but the 2nd and 3rd nights we tried to keep him in our puppy room and he fussed a lot and messed the crate, even with my partner getting up in the middle of the night to take him to go potty, and us making sure he went before bed.

So far we:

are getting a smaller crate with solid sides (we got a mesh crate with a puppy panel – maybe its big enough he feels comfortable messing)

are planning to feed him some calming treats in advance of bedtime

are ensuring he’s tired by bedtime

are taking away water in advance of bedtime

are trying to create positive associations with the crate by feeding him treats and praising him when he is in it or approaches it

but we would love some more advice!

if you have a critique of crate training in general, please keep it to yourself. ❤️
