How much should I expect to spend on a Basset Hound? And other questions

Hey everyone, I am looking into adopting a Basset from a friend of a friend who cannot care for them anymore, and I was wondering what your average costs per month/year were for them?

Additionally, I saw they have some tummy issues and skin issues, so I was wondering what yall have done to mitigate these issues? What those acute costs ended up being? And, what pet insurance providers people would recommend?

Finally, I’ve seen that Chewy can be a good place to get food/toys/supplies. How has folks’ experience with them been? And how often would I need to have food shipped to my home?

Let’s talk ear infection infections

Hey community, I’m just wondering what tips people have to counter constant ear infections in our basset hounds.

I live in New Jersey and I don’t know if it’s my state, but my Bassett has allergies all year round. Now, especially spring summertime they’re in full swing and he gets more ear infections than he typically would. I cleaned his ears out every week. I try and add a little dab of vet recommended ear ointment. I’ve been told the shape of his ears inside are a little tight. I recently bought MALACETIC ultra to clean out his ears once a week with just putting a couple dabs since it contains Cortizone.

I’d love to hear everybody’s methods and I’m sure the community would love a post like this!
