We have a 1 year old Basset Hound puppy. He’s a really sweet and smart dog when he wants to be, but when it comes to play time, he has very little interest in toys, lick mats, puzzles, bully sticks, you name it. He simply wants to rough house and basically launches full on play attacks with lots of biting. We have tried every method in the book, redirecting, ignoring, short timeouts/punishments, everything. And almost every time as soon as we sit back down he goes right back at it. He almost seems to feed off of us getting frustrated after hours of dealing with this. We have tried burning him out on walks and play time but his excitement just builds up even more and results in more attacks as soon as we are home and sitting down again. Not really sure how to handle this, it seems like he only knows one way to release his general happiness and excitement and that’s by biting. Is it just his age or bad training? We’re scared to put too much blame on his age or breed because we want to correct this now if it needs to be corrected. Please help!
