Hi there! I have a very needy 11 month old basset hound and would love any/all advice on that type of situation.
He’s not too bad when I leave-the most he will cry for is 5 minutes. He doesn’t destroy anything when I’m gone either and typically will sleep until I’m back home.
The issue is that when I am home he has to be on top of me every second. Even when he naps, he has to at least be touching me. I love him so much, but I NEED space from him. I feel so impossibly smothered.
When we are outside together he is better. He can wander off and not be touching me, but will always stay within eye shot. If he can’t see me, he will run to me-which is great when we are on our property as there are no fences and I let him off leash.
When inside, he has to be touching me or near me at ALL times. If I close the bathroom door on him, he cries. If I move the stairs away from the bed so I can lay down without him on top of me, he cries. When I’m sitting down or walking around, he has to either follow me or be on top of me. Is this a sign of an anxious attachment? Are the certain things I should be doing to help him? Is it just because he’s a puppy still and is also not neutered yet (his appointment is in a couple of weeks the day after he turns 1)!
I would so appreciate any help possible or any advice possible. Again, I love him dearly-it’s just a bit suffocating always having him on me hahaha picture of him “napping”, but still having to touch me from earlier today… haha
