Should I consider A Basset Hound?

I currently have a 11 year old cavalier King Charles, I adore this breed so very much. For the last couple of years myself and my son have wanted a pug and after finding the right breeder we’ve just been waiting for the right boy to come along.

I would love another cavalier but they’re not easy to find local and I prefer to search out breeders who do extensive health tests, which is why we considered a pug over another cavalier, I found a good local breeder.

However I have been wondering about a basset hound, how they would work alongside a cavalier King Charles, he’s 11 years old and is just a perfect boy. I prefer to keep my dogs small in height as they’re just easier for me to manage with grooming. We prefer lazy or couch potato type dogs more than active and sporty because we don’t have parks, trails etc We do have a garden and enjoy being around our dog, their company (although my cavalier is left alone to sleep as much as he wants, he’s never disturbed)

I don’t know much about the basset hound other than heir sense of smell and their very long ears which is something I would be able to take care of given the ears of a cavalier King Charles and grooming isn’t a problem.

I would need to research the Basset health and such.
