9-5 worker – Is a basset hound right for me

I work a normal 9 to 5 job. I would love a dog. I live in a house with a small garden.

Would a basset hound be happy living with me considering the space & the time I am away during work ?

If not, any other recommendations of a more suitable dog would be appreciated.
